The application portal for the 2026 Physical Acoustics Summer School (PASS 2026) is now open. The Physical Acoustics Summer School is the premier event for graduate students in physical acoustics and related fields. The purpose of the Summer School is to bring graduate students, distinguished lecturers, and discussion leaders together to discuss a wide variety of subjects in physical acoustics. PASS will give students opportunities to meet experts and discuss topics they would not ordinarily encounter in their own colleges and universities. There are also many opportunities for casual interactions with the lecturers, your fellow students, and the other professionals in attendance. Participation, including students, lecturers, and discussion leaders, is limited to forty. Full-time participation is required. This will be the 17th edition of PASS, which has been held biennially since 1992.
PASS 2026 will be held 24-29 May on the campus of the University of Mississippi, home of the National Center for Physical Acoustics.
For more information and the link to the application, please go to: https:// www.olemiss.edu/ncpa/work-with-us/physical-acoustics-summer-school/.
Applications are due by 18 February 2026.
The speakers and subjects include:
| Mark Hamilton (U. of Texas at Austin) | Nonlinear Acoustics |
| Micheal Habermann (U. of Texas at Austin) | Metamaterials |
| Tanya Khokhlova (U. of Washington) | Biomedical Ultrasound |
| Greg Swift (Los Alamos National Lab) | Thermoacoustics |
| Roger Waxler (National Center for Physical Acoustics) | Atmospheric Acoustics |
| Veerle Keppens (U. of Tennessee) | Acoustics of the Solid State |
| Glynn Holt (Boston U.) | Bubbles and Droplets |
PASS is open only to current graduate students who will retain that status through 24 May, 2026. The attendance slots are competitive and require a letter of support from your advisor or other mentor in the field. The applications consist of an online Google form, but letters of support should be separately to Debra Bos (see email address below).
I hope that advisors, mentors, and others will encourage their students to apply.
The Summer School is sponsored by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), The Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) at the U. of Texas at Austin, and the National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) at the University of Mississippi.
If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Debra Bos dperrier@olemiss.edu or Dr. Joel Mobley jmobley@olemiss.edu.
