Dear ASA Student Member,
Applications for new representatives to the ASA Student Council from the Technical Committees on Acoustical Oceanography (AO), Biomedical Acoustics (BA), Computational Acoustics (CA), Engineering Acoustics (EA), Noise (NS), Psychological and Physiological Acoustics (PP), and Speech Communication (SC) are now being accepted.
Appointments to the AO, BA, EA, and PP Technical Committees will run from 15 May 2026 through the close of the spring 2028 ASA meeting. Appointments to the CA and NS Technical Committee will run from 17 December 2026 through the close of the fall 2028 meeting.
Student Council representatives are expected to attend all ASA meetings during their terms and will normally be reimbursed up to $750 USD for expenses related to each meeting attended. Upcoming ASA meetings include Philadelphia (11–15 May 2026), Baltimore (15–17 December 2026), and Brussels (21–25 June 2027).
General responsibilities include serving as a conduit for information for students within their Technical Committee, attending Technical Committee meetings to report on student activities, promoting the interests of students in the Society, and developing student-related activities within the Society. See the ASA Student Council webpage for information about the Student Council and its activities, and feel free to contact current Student Council members with questions.
Students elected to the Student Council must be current student members of the ASA and have attended at least one ASA meeting before applying. Preference will be given to graduate students.
Applications should submitted in PDF format to asa@acousticalsociety.org with the subject line “Application for Student Council Position” by 6 March 2026. The application should be no more than 3 pages and should include:
- A statement of interest describing your involvement in ASA and what you hope to accomplish as a member of the Student Council. Please clearly state the following information:
- the Technical Committee to which you are applying
- additional Technical Committee areas (if any)
- the number of ASA meetings you have attended
- your likelihood of attending all ASA meetings during the terms listed above
- A curriculum vitae that lists your institution, degree sought, relevant experience, and expected date of graduation
Applicants will be informed of the decision by 10 April 2026.
