The applications for the 2024 Physical Acoustics Summer School (PASS 2024) are now online. For more information and the link to the application, please go to https://ncpa.olemiss.edu/pass-2024/. Applications are due by 8 February 2024.

The Physical Acoustics Summer School is the premier event for graduate students in physical acoustics and related fields. The purpose of the Summer School is to bring graduate students, distinguished lecturers, and discussion leaders together to discuss a wide variety of subjects in physical acoustics. PASS will give students opportunities to meet experts and discuss topics they would not ordinarily encounter in their own colleges and universities. Participation, including students, lecturers, and discussion leaders, is limited to forty. Full-time participation is required. There are also many opportunities for casual interactions with the lecturers, your fellow students, and the other professionals in attendance. This will be the 11th edition of PASS, which has been held biennially since 1992 (with the exception of 2020).

PASS 2024 will be held 2-7 June on the campus of the University of Mississippi, home of the National Center for Physical Acoustics.

The speakers and subjects include:

Metamaterials: Micheal Habermann (U. of Texas at Austin)
Biomedical Ultrasound: Tanya Khokhlova (U. of Washington)
Thermoacoustics: Greg Swift (Los Alamos National Lab)
Atmospheric Acoustics: Roger Waxler (National Center for Physical Acoustics)
Acoustics of the Solid State: Veerle Keppens (U. of Tennessee)
Nonlinear Acoustics: Mark Hamilton (U. of Texas at Austin)
Bubbles and Droplets: Glynn Holt (Boston U.)

PASS is open only to current graduate students who will retain that status through 2 June, 2024. The attendance slots are competitive and require a letter of support from your advisor or other mentor in the field. The applications consist of an online Google form, but letters of support should be separately to Debra Bos (see email address below).

I hope that advisors, mentors, and others will encourage their students to apply.

The Summer School is sponsored by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), The Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) at the U. of Texas at Austin, and the National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) at the University of Mississippi.

If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Debra Bos jmobley@olemiss.edu or me jmobley@olemiss.edu.
